Black Dots On Tongue, What Do They Mean?

Although it sounds strange, black dots on the tongue are more frequent than you might think. These blemishes worry everyone who suffers from them, as most people think directly about cancer. However, its causes can be varied.

Its location and appearance vary. Black dots on the tongue may appear on the back and have a soft appearance. They can also appear in other areas, in multiple or solitary ways. Most of the time they are temporary and their duration varies according to the cause.

“Hairy” black tongue

“Hairy” black tongue is a mild and temporary oral disease. The tongue takes on a dark, hairy appearance. This is because dead skin cells cannot be removed in the normal way. Therefore, they accumulate and cause the papillae to increase in size.

The cause is unknown, however, scientists are investigating the possibility that there is a genetic factor involved.

Fungal infection

Yeast infections  are common in people who have poor oral hygiene. In fact, they can also appear shortly after consumption of certain antibiotics. This is because antibiotics alter the entire bacterial composition of the tongue, including the normal protective flora.

Injuries and Wounds

Even if you don’t imagine, the tongue can also be bruised. Any blow or bite that fails to remove the tissue can cause small bruises to form. They manifest themselves in the form of small black dots.

As we mentioned earlier,  antibiotics can alter the bacterial flora of the tongue. Therefore, it is easier for a yeast infection to occur.

Also, avoid toxic habits, especially smoking. Tobacco is related to both blackheads and oral cancer.
